Conduct
Back | Table of contents
- High standards of etiquette and ethics are expected.
- Players may not use any notes, outside sources of information, or advice from other people. Scoresheets are to record objective facts about the game only, i.e. time on the clock, draw offers (indicated by "="), etc.
- Analysis on another board is not permitted.
- Players may not leave the competition area without permission of the arbiter.
- A player may not distract or annoy another player. This includes repeatedly offering a draw (Schiller 2003:30–31).
- Players should shake hands before and after the game.
- Generally a player should not speak during the game, except to offer a draw, resign, or to call attention to an irregularity. An announcement of "check" is done in amateur games, but it should not be done in officially sanctioned games (Schiller 2003:49–52).
